The Portfolio: General Info
Includes: A “Compendium” of all work completed during the quarter 3 to 5 show case papers (at least 1 Major Paper must be included) A Critical Reflection (divided into sections) that explains how the selected papers demonstrate fulfillment of the Course Outcomes as well as a the writer’s holistic approach to writing and how it has developed CIC ePortfolio How To:

The Logic of the Portfolio
Students are evaluated on the skills that they have developed by the END of the quarter Grading is replaced by guidance and feedback, helping students reach their highest potential Provides an opportunity for meta-cognitive reflection on writing performance in light of course outcomes, and on what it means to write effectively in general

Critical Reflection on the Outcomes
Students move from approaching the Outcomes as abstract statements or “requirements” to understanding how they reflect effective writing Students understand not only how to demonstrate these skills, but also why and how they reflect effective writing choices Process encourages students to think about transfer- how might the skills be relevant and applicable to other areas of their lives or majors?

An Effective Reflection will:
Your Introduction should address backwards reaching transfer, while your Conclusion should address forward reaching transfer Demonstrate understanding of the outcomes and assignments through paraphrase Show understanding of why an outcome is important to good writing Address why a chosen paper is a good demonstration of the outcome Directly quote from and analyze evidence from the chosen paper Reflect on how, specifically, the outcome helped to improve the student’s writing
