Current Events You will turn in one current event every Friday using a template given (after we are accustomed to the format, templates will not be provided)

Criteria and Scoring Each student will turn in a current event report every Friday. Each student will present their chosen event to the class and include the following in the presentation: Media source, title/topic, date of the event, why it was chosen, a brief summary (a sentence or two), how this event affects us, and their opinion of the event/topic. The article must be attached to the report AND/OR cited accurately using MLA format at the bottom of the report. Scoring will be based on the rubric provided.

What is a Current Event? Where do I find one?
Find an article either in the newspaper or online from a newspaper source, Time.com, USA Today, The New York Times, etc., or any other reputable national or local source. You may not use articles on Entertainment/Gossip or Sports. Please find and read about important issues in our world today. Because this is a current events assignment you are to choose an article that is no more than a week old from when the assignment is given. Attach the article to the worksheet AND/OR provide citation using MLA format.

Scoring Current Event Rubric Possible Earned
Possible Earned News Article – must be a reputable source and be a true news article (no entertainment, gossip, or sports) 20 Time - article is no more than one-week old 15 Template/Report – complete, thoughtful, accurate, and quality work Connection – student makes connection to how the event affects self or world Presentation – student presents in a professional, respectful, and thoughtful manner Article/Citation - Article is attached AND/OR MLA citation is provided Total Score 100
