2. Peter the Encourager Introduction
All four Gospel accounts record a statement from Peter regarding the identity of Jesus.
Peter’s words reflect an understanding of Jesus’ Messiahship – John 6:68-69.
Peter’s statement are words of certainty based on trust in Jesus’ words.

The Lord’s first question set up His second question.
“You” is in the emphatic position to focus on the real opinion the Lord was interested.
Peter emphatically confessed that Jesus is the Messiah.

Peter’s understanding of Jesus had been gradually growing and was still in need of growth.
Jesus clearly explained the need for His suffering and resurrection.
The Lord’s explanation did not line up with Peter’s ideas about Messiah.

7. Matthew 16:13-23 Peter’s Confession
Jesus’ death is central to His function as Messiah and standing in the way is tantamount to doing the work of Satan.
Sadly many believers pervert the message of the Gospel by which they are saved.

8. Peter the Encourager Biblical Thoughts:
We need discernment to recognize unbiblical advice from well-meaning friends.
We need discernment from the Word of god to avoid cheapening the work of Christ on the cross – Galatians 6:14.
The eternal destiny of all men is dependent upon their relationship with Jesus Christ.
