CA Common Core Standards
OLD CA State Standards NEW Common Core Standards A mile-wide-inch deep curriculum More focused content and deeper thinking The R’s: Rote Memorization Regurgitation of facts The C’s: Critical Thinking Communication Collaboration Creativity Sage-on-the-stage-based classroom Guide-on-the-side teaching A quiet obedience-based classroom An interactive collaboration-based culture Bubble-based STAR Testing Computer-based Smarter Balanced Assessment (Starting in 3rd grade) Common Core standards encompass the same fundamentals as the previous CA State standards. However, Common Core emphasizes Thinking Deeply, Integrating Learning, and having students Show What they Know and How they know it. Common Core stresses the following 4 C’s: Critical Thinking, Collaboration, Communication, and Creativity. The goal is to prepare ALL students to be college and career ready.

Mon.-Thurs. homework recorded in planner/due daily 20-30 minutes each night should be dedicated to reading Reading Log & Personal Spelling Word Quiz Sheet due Friday Parents Initial “Reading” and “Math Facts” on yellow SURF log nightly Keep all papers in binder Do only assigned page

Tips for a Successful Year
Teach a morning routine. All materials in backpack Start each day with a nutritious breakfast Bring a “healthy” recess snack daily Monitor TV, video games, and computer activities Provide a study area and a homework routine at home Check planner nightly Sleep ten or more hours each night (asleep by 8:00 pm) Keep children home when ill

PBIS … Positive Behavior Interventions and Support is a school-wide positive behavior system that focuses on defined behavior expectations and positive reinforcement for all students.

Minor and Major Behavior Reports
Behavior Referral Forms (Minors and Majors) are issued to students who demonstrate problem behaviors as a way to reinforce the school-wide expected behaviors.

Meadow Park Foundation Since inception (1993), we have raised over $275,000 in order to provide a strong technology environment at Meadow Park Between 2004 – 2016, through corporate and parent donations, we have raised and purchased over $150,000 of technology-related items including: Chromebooks for 4th, 5th & 6th grades resulting in an almost 1:1 ratio with students 60 Chromebooks for 2nd and 3rd grades iPad purchases for 6th grade resulting in a 4:1 ratio New iPads for all Meadow Park teachers Full replacement of computers in the Computer Lab Purchase and donation of over 100 laptops However, as the technology needs of MP changes, we are reshaping our vision to best support the school’s technology needs – stay tuned for more details! This year we are receiving $84,483.68 in Title 1 funds.
Here are some of the things Title 1 funds were used for last year: Instructional Assistants for the classroom TOSA support Math and Reading Intervention materials Teacher support materials This year we will be having select before/after school interventions, as well as interventions provided during the school day, for grade 1st -6th. Nutrition Services is here tonight to help parents pre-pay for lunches or to help with signing up for Free or Reduced Lunch.

PTA Website Created and updated by our PTA board Grade-level Websites Used by K-3 for grade-level information. Meadow Park News Issued periodically throughout the year. Contains more detailed information about our school programs. Staff teacher first and last name + iusd.org. This is the preferred method of communication with staff. Digital Citizenship will be discussed with students during their first visit(s) to the computer lab. Teacher Notes: Digital Citizenship In the digital world that we live in, students have the opportunity now to be involved in a variety of social media. Part of our curriculum is to help students safely and responsibly navigate our online world.
