2 introduction AFA first realized issue in 2007 from international gatherings attended API participated in UNFCCC Bali, 2007; statement issued AFA conducted session on CC during AFA GA in 2008, Korea AFA conducted village, district, in-country consultations on gender dimension in FS, CC , July-January , 2009 AFA participated in FAO, IFAD consultations on CC , 2008 and 2009

3 introduction AFA as part of Phil official delegation in UNFCCC, Copenhagen, 2009 AFA as part of Global Gender Climate Alliance (GGCA) in UNFCCC, Copenhagen, 2009 AFA conducted consultation on Women, FS and CC , October , 2009, Bangkok AFA made an 11 minute video on CC We will show the video

5 Summary- women’s roles
Women are farmers too - half of farming population Women produce most of the world’s food consumed locally Women ensure food and water security Women market their crops and fishes caught Women are care givers Women as first teachers

6 barriers/challenges to women
Limited recognition and valuation of women’s roles Thus, limited support to women in agri Limited voice and power in decision making ( underrepresentation in leadership positions) Limited economic empowerment

7 solutions Agri and cc financing for adaptation with high mitigation potentials involving women farmers and directly benefitting them (eg communal water, food, seed storage) Organizing and capacity building for women farmers for production (eg FAITH and BIG) and marketing of cc-resilient, sus ag crops and food products Gender-based training for both men and women farmers
