2 Scrabble Although the game had been released
The game is sold in 121 countries; there are 29 different language versions. One hundred and fifty million sets have been sold worldwide, and sets are found in roughly one-third of American homes. Although the game had been released earlier then this it was released worldwide in this year.

3 McDonalds McDonald's Corporation is the world's largest chain of
Hamburger Fast Food Restaurants, serving around 64 million customers daily. Headquartered in the United States, the corporation was founded by businessman Ray Kroc in this year after he purchased the rights to a small hamburger chain. This was the 9th McDonalds Restaurant but the first built by the McDonalds Corporation, those before belonging to the small chain.

4 Lady and the Tramp Lady and the Tramp is the fifteenth animated feature in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series, it was the first animated feature filmed in the CinemaScope widescreen film process. Walt read a short story in Cosmopolitan written by Ward Greene, called "Happy Dan, The Whistling Dog". He was interested in the story and bought the rights to it. This and an earlier idea are what ended up creating the final idea for this movie.

5 Peter Pan On TV The original stage production took
place at the Duke of York's Theatre, London, on 27 December 1904. Later it was brought to America and the Broadway show, staring Mary Martin as Peter Pan, was filmed for TV. To this day Mary Martin is the actress most associated with this role in America.

6 Disneyland Opens Disneyland opened in this year with only 20
attractions. This day is called “Black Sunday” by those at Disney. Only 11,000 invitations went out but 28,154 attended. It was an unusually high 101 degrees and the asphalt that was just poured had not yet dried and high heels sank right in. The water fountains in the park were not working and vendors ran out of food. The opening was all-in-all a disaster.

7 The Guinness Book of Records
Guinness World Records, known until 2000 as The Guinness Book of Records is a reference book published annually, containing a collection of world records, both human achievements and the extremes of the natural world. The book itself holds a world record, as the best-selling copyrighted book series of all time. It is also one of the most frequently stolen books from public libraries in the United States.

8 James Dean Dies James Dean was killed in a car accident on his way to
a race when a driver hit him head on when turning onto a fork in the road. He claimed he did not see Dean’s car until it was too late. In recent studies of the accident it has been found that Dean was only driving 55 mph even though many stories after the crash wrote he was speeding.

10 Winston Churchill Resigns
Winston Churchill was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom for nine years serving two separate terms. He also served in a number of other offices during his ministries. He was the Prime Minister throughout WWII and was one of the first to really understand the threat Hitler posed to Europe. Churchill was the first to be named an Honorary Citizen of the United States.

11 Racial Segregation Claudette Colvin was the first African American
To resist racial segregation on public Transportation, nine months before Rosa Parks. Black leaders in the area did not publicize Colvin’s efforts because she was a teenager and became pregnant while unmarried.
