What is a CROP Hunger Walk? “Neighbors walking together to take a stand against hunger in our world.  Together we raise awareness and funds for international relief and development.”
Ecumenical outreach opportunity for local churches
25% of the money goes to local needs; 75% to global needs
Who organizes the CROP Hunger Walks?
“Founded in 1946, Church World Service is a relief, development, and refugee assistance ministry. Working in partnership with indigenous organizations in more than 80 countries, CWS works worldwide to meet human needs and foster self-reliance for all whose way is hard.”

4. Putting It Into Perspective
Over one billion people (about one seventh of the world) do not have access to safe water and 2.4 billion don’t have access to improved sanitation
Over 800 million people lack adequate food
Every day, almost 16,000 children die from hunger-related causes – one child every five seconds
In Hamilton County, over 27,000 individuals live on food stamps and there are 46 food pantries in the county

5. Mission of the Hamilton County CROP Walk:
serve God by addressing needs of his people
educate the participants and churches about local and global needs
grow faith by providing hands-on opportunities to serve God that will plant or nurture seeds of faith in those that participate

6. 2016 Vision
Enlist the help of Nancy Chance as Honorary Chairperson
Nancy leads the Good Samaritan Network and helps ensure Hamilton County food pantries help those in need
Raise enough money ($30,000) to “purchase” 7 semi trucks of food for Hamilton County food pantries
We have raised over $189,000 over the last 8 years and walked over 10 million steps

9. Who We Helped Live Our Faith Out Loud Third Phase
Hunger, lack of clean water and poverty—some causes: drought, flooding, displaced persons, military conflict and the “resource curse”.

10. Who We Help Locally
Up to 25% of the money raised in our CROP Hunger Walk is distributed to local hunger-alleviating agencies in Greater Hamilton County. We donate the money to Good Samaritan to the pantries with the greatest needs.

Date: Sunday, Oct 2nd
Time: registration at 1:30, opening remarks: 1:50, walk starts at 2:00
Place: downtown Carmel, starting at the Gazebo
Walk Distance: 1.0 and 3.9 miles
New This Year: Fun ride and run; all county food drive in September to “fill the shelves”
Parking: At Carmel United Methodist Church (126th & Range Line)

12. What We Can Provide
$ lb of much-needed food for a local church-run food pantry
$50 seeds and tools for three families
$150 a hundred chickens and two wire chicken coops, providing two families with a reliable source of eggs, protein and income
$1000 a pump and community hygiene training for a village, assuring a reliable source of water and improved community health
$ a well that reaches deep into an aquifer, allowing a village access to clean, safe water. When periods of drought hit, communities with deep water wells can continue to grow gardens, lessening the drought's impact on local food supplies
