Statement of intent What is the purpose of this project?
The purpose of this project is to let people know there are more places to go in Britain other than London. Over the past few years I have noticed more tourists and celebrities are going to London rather than anywhere else. This is probably because it is the capital. However, I feel like that Manchester also has a lot to offer that people may not know about, that’s why I have decided to make a promotional video about Manchester. I hope for it to persuade people to come to Manchester and experience it for themselves.
3
Statement of intent Who is the audience for your video?
The audience for my video can be anyone. Whether they're male or female, young or old, it doesn't matter because Manchester has a lot to offer for everyone.
4
Statement of intent What would your video look like?
My video is going to be fast pace as there is a lot to get through and if it wasn’t sped up I feel like it would be over half an hour long and people watching would get bored quickly and turn it off. I am going to walk around Manchester and shows its most famous and popular places.
5
Statement of intent What is the content? – Storyline, Graphics, Interaction etc. My storyline has no storyline as is it just different places in Manchester. I feel like I don’t need a storyline as it is self explanatory and I felt like it didn't’t need a storyline as there is no story towards it. I was originally planning on filming it all on my phone but due to having no storage I had to use a camera. I feel like the graphics are a lot better on the camera because when I zoom in on something is doesn't go blurry or fuzzy which I know would if I was to film it on a phone. Throughout the filming I didn't interact with anyone as this is just showing Manchester's best parts. I felt like I didn’t need to interact with people as the places I would show would tell it all.

Questionnaire I decided to ask people a range of questions relating to promotional videos and Manchester. I wanted to see what peoples thoughts and opinions were on them. I also wanted to see what type of audience I was addressing. I felt like by doing a questionnaire I could get answers quick and easily. Even though questionnaires are simple, they are also an effective way to collect a lot of information. Whether its useful or not depends on the answers people give. By me doing a questionnaire it proved as unsuccessful as it was inconclusive. People said one thing for one question but then went back on it in another question. This wasn’t helpful as it didn't make sense. One thing I did gather was that the people I asked were not my audience.
7
Questionnaire This is the question I sent out to 10 people, but out of the 10 people I gave it out to, only 8 gave it me back. I feel like the questions asked were good ones and would tell me a lot about what people thought.
8
Questionnaire The questions I asked was: - Age
Would you watch promotional videos? What do you think their purpose is? What makes a good promotional video? Should the pace of the video be fast or slow? What interests you about Manchester? What's your favorite spot in Manchester? Gender.
9
Questionnaire – Q1 I asked everyone their age as I felt like I needed to know what type of audience I was addressing. Looking at the results I can gather that: 50% were 16, 37% were 17, 13% were 18.
10
Questionnaire – q2 I asked people if they watched promotional videos as I wanted to see if they could recognize any they say as we see promotional videos everyday but we might not notice them. 37% said yes, 63% said no.
11
Questionnaire – Q3 I asked people what interest them about promotional videos and I got a 50/50 answer. 50% said they're catchy, The remaining 50% said they're persuasive.
12
Questionnaire - Q4 I asked people what makes a good promotional video as I wanted to see what peoples answers were so I could interpret them in to my video. 37% said gets to the point quickly, 63% said persuasive.
13
Questionnaire – Q5 I asked people what the last promotional video they watched was because there are hundreds of different ones and I wanted to see what it was about. 100% of the people asked said they are not sure what the last promotional videos they watched was.
14
Questionnaire – Q6 I asked people what interest them about Manchester because I felt like this would be another good way to get to know my audience. 50% said shopping, 25% said pubs, 25% said other.
15
Questionnaire – q7 I asked what peoples favorite spots in Manchester were as this would also help me know where to go when filming. 25% said Trafford Centre, 37% said Old Trafford, 25% said Arndale, 13% said other.
16
Questionnaire – q8 I asked them their age gender because I wanted to see if their answers related to their gender. 75% were Male, 255 were Female.
17
Questionnaire Conclusion
Overall, I would say that the questionnaire was inconclusive. I would say this because the answers didn't make sense. The people who answered said one thing button the next question went back on themselves. By doing this I realized that they was not my audience to watch my promotional video on Manchester.

Focus Group Another form of research I did was a focus group. A focus group is where you ask a group of people questions related to what you're doing in front of a camera or a recorder. I felt like this was a better form of research as there is verbal evidence and they don’t have much time to think about the questions asked so they're quick. As well as that they can go in to more detail, where as if they're writing thy may not be able to get their point across. I found the focus group to be extremely useful as I got completely different answers. I found that by getting different answers that the people I was questioning were completely different people. All their answers helped me in some sort of way, whether is was a big impact or not.

YouTube research I knew that there was a few videos like mine out there whether they're related to Manchester or not and I wanted to see if they were like how I planned mine in my head. I also wanted to see if I could get inspiration from other to help me improve mine. When looking on YouTube I found a few videos promoting Manchester but looking at them I found that they didn't go into detail in to detail when filming. They didn’t: Have many music, but if they did it was the same song. No pictures.. Not long enough clips. I felt like if I was a tourist and had never been Manchester before I wouldn't go based on watching them videos as it didn't tell me much.
20
Mood board I felt like by doing a mood board that would help me with places to go when filming. The mood board didn't help me what so ever as after time thinking about it there were a few places on it where I didn't want to go to film.

Facts I looked up a few facts about Manchester because I felt like I didn't know enough about it. Even though I have lived here for 16 years I realized that there a things that I don’t know about it which I thought I should know. By doing this research I have learnt things that didn't know at the start of the project. This was also a learning experience for me as I have learnt new things.

Strengths I would say there are many strengths for my promotional video. I would say this because there are a lot of places to film in Manchester and especially places where you don’t need permission to film. I would say the strengths include: There are not many videos promoting Manchester. It’s interesting to people whether they're from Manchester or not. People who are from Manchester may not know some of these places exist. Its simplistic but effective. Can be very informative. Showcases Manchester's best and most popular places. These are some of the strengths which I feel stand out the most.

weaknesses Although this idea has strengths, it also has weaknesses, just like an other project. I feel like there are some weaknesses that we can overcome but they still might be slight problems. I would say the weaknesses include: People might not find it interesting. Might not be relevant. Might not be promotional enough. These are some of the weaknesses which come to mind first. I cant think of anything else because I feel like there are more strengths because it’s a good video I am doing with a strong structure.
