We need to do good – not do-gooders but good-doers.

The goodness of the God who defends the cause of the widow and orphan.
That must be the quality of our goodness also, as disciples of Jesus with the life of Christ living in us by His Spirit.

But once we have experienced God’s salvation, we are called to respond to His saving grace and redeeming love by living lives that are characterised by goodness, in our personal and public lives, in the church and in the world.

Why does Paul put such a strong emphasis on Christians being people who do good works?
Why is goodness an essential part of the Fruit of the Spirit?
Because it reflects the nature and truth of the Gospel.

When we respond to evil in our world by acting with kindness and goodness, we are not only bearing the supernatural Fruit of the Spirit of God, we are also living in the power of the cross and the resurrection, and we are anticipating the final victory of God’s goodness over all evil in the universe.
In doing good we demonstrate the saving and transforming power of the Gospel.

The cross and resurrection are not just the proof of God’s goodness, they are also the source and pattern of any and all goodness we can do as Christians.
Do what is good, do what is right, and let God take responsibility for the consequences.
