Protects consumers from risk of fire from textiles in the home
Covers: beds, upholstery eg sofas, cots, pillows etc
Fillings must use CMHR (Combustion Modified High Resilience) Foam
Fabrics must under go a cigarette test & a match test

3. What is Proban? A flame retardant finish
Used on cotton & cellulose fabrics
Protects fabric by adding an invisible layer of phosphorus & nitrogen to the fibre
If ignited (eg a spark) fabric will not melt, smoulder and the flame will extinguish

Permanent label:
Usually stitched to the fabric
Should contains details about the manufacturer: name, address, identification number
Should contains details about the product: type of filling & cover material, type of fire retardant
Should say: ‘carelessness causes fire’
Can be long or short label
Regulations are implemented by the Dept of Enterprise, Trade & employment
Swing Label:
Have highly visible red or green borders, either square or triangular
Square: (green) both filling & cover fabric meet regulations fully
Triangular: (red) filling meets requirements but cover is not match resistant
A special fire retardant interliner has been fitted instead
