Element Identification Chart
= Hydrogen Use the symbols to write out the chemical formula for each station. Be careful to identify what is connected and what is not. That way you can determine what is just an element, what is a compound and what might be a mixture. Element = substance that consists of only one type of atom Molecule = two or more elements held together by a bond Compound = two or more different elements chemically bonded = Oxygen O = Carbon C = Sodium Na = Chlorine Possible compound and mixture names for identification Methane = CH4 Carbon Dioxide = CO Salt = NaCl Sodium Pyrite = NaFe Iron Chloride = Fe3ClO Water = H Iron Oxide = Fe2O3 Nitrous Oxide = NO Propane = C3H8 Sodium Hydroxide = NaOH Chlorine Gas = Cl Chloride Gas = Cl3 Steel = Iron (Fe) + Carbon (C) Iron Sulfide = FeS Acetylene = C2H2 Carbon Monoxide = CO Baking Soda = NaCHO Ammonia = NH3 Salt Water = Salt (NaCl) + Water Acid Rain = Water + CO Air = CO2 and N and O2 Cl = Iron Fe = Nitrogen N
