How did the ruler eventually lose power? Most of the bad tyrants were forced out by the people because they were unhappy with the way their city-state was being led. The people thought that it would be a better idea to go back to a group of people leading the city-state, but this group would be much larger than an oligarchy

12 Hippias and Hipparchus Hippias was the last tyrant of Athens and was a benevolent tyrant for most of his time as ruler. He led along with his brother, Hipparchus then, enemies of the brothers murdered Hipparchus and Hippias ruled more harshly after that. He paid spies to report anyone who said anything bad about him or disagreed with him. Eventually, his time as tyrant became more and more unbearable and he was forced to leave power by the people
