“At Least 8 People Killed In Motorist's 'Act Of Terror' ”
2
At least eight people were killed and more than a dozen were injured Tuesday afternoon after a motorist drove onto a busy pedestrian and bicycle path in Manhattan. "The vehicle continued south striking another vehicle. The suspect exited the vehicle displaying imitation firearms" and was shot in the stomach by police. Police have arrested a 29-year-old man identified by law enforcement officials as Sayfullo Saipov. Authorities have said there are "no others outstanding" in the incident, which unfolded near the World Trade Center. The law enforcement officials say the suspect came to the U.S. from Uzbekistan. According to public records he has lived in Florida, Ohio and recently New Jersey. "Based on the information that we have at this moment this was an act of terror," New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said at a news conference after visiting the scene. Officials later said a paintball gun and a pellet gun were recovered at the scene. The NYPD also tweeted a request for the public to provide any videos or other images of the event for use by investigators.

In Other News It's only fitting a World Series that has already featured two extra-innings contests, the most home runs in Fall Classic history and drastic momentum swings will also include a Game 7. The Los Angeles Dodgers ensured there will be a winner-take-all showdown in the World Series for the second year in a row with a 3-1 victory over the Houston Astros in Tuesday's Game 6 at Dodger Stadium. Let the vacation countdowns begin. The percentage of Americans planning to take a vacation in the next six months jumped in October to the highest level since at least 1978, according to a report published Tuesday by the Conference Board. The splurge in planned vacation spending reflects soaring optimism about the healthy jobs market and booming stock market. The unemployment rate of 4.2% is the lowest in 16 years and the Dow has zoomed to record highs. All this travel talk is terrific news for travel companies like Expedia and TripAdvisor as well as hotel chains and cruise operators. Other winners include airlines and car rental services: Just over one-quarter of Americans plan to fly, while almost one-third will drive.
