What is a simple sentence?
A simple sentence is a sentence that has one subject- verb pair. A. The subject in a simple sentence may be compound: Ex: My brother and I are completely different. The verb in a simple sentence may be compound: They laughed and cried at the same time. C. Each sentence is a simple sentence because it has only one subject-verb pair.

CAREFUL! The following sentence is not a simple sentence because it has two subject-verb pairs. The formula looks like this: S V, S V S V S V My brother lives in New York, and my sister lives in Paris. What is this kind of sentence called? This kind of sentence is called a compound sentence.
