WORLD RUGBY EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION PROGRAMME
JUNE 2016
2
CONTEXT In June 2015, an Employee Recognition project team was established to address feedback from the High Performance survey which articulated a need to build a stronger culture of recognition that was inclusive of all employees in World Rugby. The team was made up of: Dom Rumbles (Leadership Sponsor) Lisa Lowry (HR Lead) Susan Spellman, Ronan Donagher, Marc Douglas, Simone Papirnik, Yvonne Nolan, Ali Hughes and Sarah Carew. The team’s aim was to design a comprehensive Recognition Framework, which looked at the specific areas of recognition appropriate to World Rugby, along with the structure of the award hierarchy and the nomination and selection processes. REASONS TO RECOGNISE Recognition is a business tool … which achieves the following: Improves performance: to reinforce specific behaviours and results that the organisation would like to see more frequently demonstrated. Models core values: to highlight the positive behaviours that are aligned with World Rugby values (not just any positive behaviours) Shows appreciation: to demonstrate gratitude for extra effort Recognition can take the form of acknowledgement, approval or the expression of gratitude. Recognition is usually accompanied an item/experience with monetary value (but not necessarily monetary) for demonstrating a desired behaviour or performance…. ‘a treat for doing something above and beyond.’ JUNE 2016

WHY TRY? TRY Awards programme aims to recognise one-off examples of exceptional performance by individuals and teams for work well done, a valiant effort, excellent demonstration of the World Rugby values and those who go out of their way to deliver a really great service, to support achievement of World Rugby’s priorities. This toolkit is a mechanism to recognise and appreciate these special efforts and celebrate the commitment and success achieved by the organisation and its employees. The programme brings to life our values and aims to support a performance culture which celebrates success and recognises the value added by employees. JUNE 2016
