2 Origin & Development of genre
Dates back thousands of years. In cultures where Demons and Witches are perceived as real, it may merge into legends The oral tradition of the fairy tale came long before the written page. Handed down from generation to generation Fairy tales appear, now and again, in written literature throughout literate cultures.

Have fantasy creatures Enchantments and far fetched events Good character Evil character Royalty Poverty Magic and Enchantments Universal Truths

4 Brothers Grimm Jacob (Jan/4/1785-Sept/20/1863)
Wilhelm Grimm (Feb/24/1786-Dec/16/1859) Their intentions were to preserve history. Methods-groundbreaking / specific in the details of the places and time period of German history. Tales themselves have been put to many uses - Nazis Has set a standard in the approaches used today to write and research folklore. Cinderella, The Frog Prince, Hansel and Gretel, Rapunzel, Snow White, Rumpelstiltskin

5 Hans Christian Andersen
Danish author and poet( ) Writing style remains close to the spoken language Began his fairy-tale writing by retelling folk tales he had heard as a child from his grandmother and others. Broke new ground for Danish literature with his style and use of idiom, irony and humor, memorable characters and un-didactic moral teaching. The Snow Queen, The little Mermaid, Thumbelina, The Little Match Girl, The Ugly Duckling, The Princess and the Pea.
