Height image of TTF film Current-Voltage characteristics
Fundamental Investigations of the Molecular Basis of Conductance in Flexible Polymer/Metal Nanostructures Alexei V. Tivanski, Department of Chemistry, University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA 52242 While there are continuous efforts toward developing and characterizing new nanoscale electrical components, the methods to connect such components are poorly developed. This work develops the basic principles for mechanically stable, flexible and reliable nanoscale electrical interconnects. Conducting Probe AFM is used to fabricate metal-molecule-metal junctions and study their electrical and mechanical properties Electrical conduction properties of symmetric tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) derivatives assembled on Au were studied Measured single TTF molecule resistance is 14.7 ± 0.7 GΩ Estimated TTF resistivity is 390 Ω•cm => comparable with bulk germanium (~65 •cm )! TTF displays remarkable conductivity! Conducting Probe AFM Results indicate that molecular systems based on the TTF unit can be used as efficient metal-molecule interconnects with improved charge transfer properties!
