2. Dr. Faye Glenn Abdella
: Nursing theories and concepts originate from nurses with the purpose of structuring nursing education, guiding nursing research, and improving nursing practice. For this presentation, I have come to admire one particular Nurse so much in history that I chose Nursing theorist Dr. Faye Glenn Abdella.

3. BRIEF BACKGROUND
: Faye Glenn Abdellah was born on March 13, 1919 in New York City to a Father of Algerian heritage and a Scottish Mother. She passed away on February 21, She was an American Pioneer in Nursing Research. In 1974 she became the first nurse officer in the U.S. to receive the rank of a two-star rear admiral. Faye Glenn Abdellah dedicated her life to nursing and, as a researcher and educator, helped change the profession's focus from a disease-centered approach to a patient-centered approached. Dr. Abdellah was well educated and was also honored as a "living legend" by the American Academy of Nursing in Rear Admiral Faye G. Abdellah dedicated her life’s work to the advancement of the nursing profession. She is regarded as one of the most influential nursing theorists and public health scientists of our times. Dr.. Abdellah also rose to the position of a Surgeon General.

4. MY CONNECTION TO THIS THEORIST
I believe that I have a heart and a passion for nursing and one of the reasons that I pick Dr. Faye Glenn Abdelleh for this presentation is that I fully see "Eye to Eye" with her concepts and theories. I mostly admire the Twenty-One Nursing problems theory developed by Dr. Abdellah. This theory and concept I will adopt myself in my career field as a nurse.

5. THE TWENTY-ONE NURSING PROBLEM THEORY
The Twenty-One Nursing Problems Theory was developed by Faye Glenn Abdellah. Her model of nursing was progressive for the time in that it refers to a nursing diagnosis during a time in which nurses taught that diagnoses were not part of their role in health care.
There are specific characteristics identifiable in the Twenty-One Nursing Problems. The theory has interrelated the concepts of health, nursing problems, and problem-solving. Problem-solving is an activity that is inherently logical in nature. The framework focuses on nursing practice and individual patients.

6. The ten steps to identify the patient's problems are:
Learn to know the patient
Sort out relevant and significant data
Make generalizations about available data in relation to similar nursing problems presented by other patients
Identify the therapeutic plan
Test generalizations with the patient and make additional generalizations
Validate the patient's conclusions about his nursing problems
Continue to observe and evaluate the patient over a period of time to identify any attitudes and clues affecting his behavior
Explore the patient's and family's reaction to the therapeutic plan and involve them in the plan
Identify how the nurses feel about the patient's nursing problems
Discuss and develop a comprehensive nursing care plan

7. The eleven nursing skills in the theory are:
observation of health status
skills of communication
application of knowledge
teaching of patients and families
planning and organization of work
use of resource materials
use of personnel materials
problem-solving
direction of work of others
therapeutic use of the self
nursing procedure

8. : Conclusion:
According to Abdellah’s theory, “Nursing is based on an art and science that molds the attitudes, intellectual competencies, and technical skills of the individual nurse into the desire and ability to help people, sick or well, cope with their health needs.”
The patient-centered approach to nursing was developed from Abdellah’s practice, and the theory is considered a human needs theory. It was formulated to be an instrument for nursing education, so it most suitable and useful in that field. The nursing model is intended to guide care in hospital institutions, but can also be applied to community health nursing, as well.
