2 Blacks Harbour Plant History and Capabilities
Connors Bros. was established in 1893 Blacks Harbour produces Herring product in 3 can sizes Facility began operations in February 1974 The facility has 250k ft2 under roof including the warehouse space Cold storage capacity is 11.5kft2 or 2,600 MT We also use outside storage as needed Canning capacity with one 8 hour shift 6,500 cases (100’s) Facility runs January through December, with shutdown in April for maintenance The production process involves 5 packing formats, 11 closing machines, 11 retorts and 5 packaging lines for wrapping, casing, and palletizing 3rd Party Frozen fish is sourced from the US, Europe and Africa when required

3 Blacks Harbour Plant Overview
The Blacks Harbour facility is approved under the CFIA, and is SQF (Safe Quality Foods) level 3 certified (highest level of certification) In-house Quality tests for incoming fish and finished goods before shipping 475 full-time employees with an average tenure of 17 + years. The employees are represented by an Association not unionized. Factory management has many years of expertise in the herring and food processing industry Finished goods are shipped daily to customers and Distribution Centers

5 Plant Automation Scissor Packing
This packing method was used over 100 years ago and still continues today. With the declining work force 30 years ago Connors seen the need to find alternate packing methods. A packing machine was found in Spain that would be capable of packing the fish with less workers and greater output. Manual packing line 44 workers average daily output per worker 19. Automated Packing line 20 workers average daily output per worker 45.

6 Plant Automation Fillet (Snack) Packing
Again with the declining work force Connors recognized the need to find alternate packing methods. A packing machine was found in Denmark that would be capable of packing the fillets with less workers and greater output. Manual packing line 35 workers average a daily output per worker of 19 cs. Automated Packing line 12 workers average a daily output per worker of 45 cs.
