1 Why Women Can’t Lead the Church

2 Satan has been the enemy of God from the beginning.
Satan’s victory in Eden

3 I Peter 5: 8 – Be of sober spirit, be on the alert
I Peter 5: 8 – Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Ephesians 6: – A Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

4 Peer pressure .. killing with culture
Titus 1: 12-13 One of themselves, a prophet of their own, said, " Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons." 13 This testimony is true. For this reason reprove them severely so that they may be sound in the faith,

5 Live separate from the culture
Romans 12: 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

6 II Corinthians 6: 17 – “Therefore, come out from their midst and be separate,” says the Lord. “And do not touch what is unclean; … Philippians 3: 20 – for our citizenship is in Heaven. Hebrews 11: 13 – Strangers and exiles on the earth

7 This lesson is about a clear clash of cultures which is costing many believers their souls.
Our theses is : The scriptures teach that women cannot be leaders in God’s church.

8 I. Women are not permitted
to lead prayers in the assembly of the church.

9 Unambiguously Commanded
I Timothy 2: 7-8 For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle … as a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. 8 Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension

10 This command is gender specific.
Men : “aner” : 1. man, adult male Person : “anthropos” : 1. a human being

11 Verses 8 & 9 contrast two things, the holiness of men and of women.
I Timothy 2: 9-10 Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments, 10 but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness.

12 The man who leads a prayer has charge over the others who are following.

13 II. Women are not permitted
to teach men or to have authority over men.

14 Direct empirical command
I Timothy 2: 11-14 A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness. 12 But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. 13 For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve. 14 And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.

15 Two foundations are stated :
This command refers to a woman’s position NOT to her ability. Two foundations are stated :

16 Order of creation: I Timothy 2: 13
For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve. Genesis 2: 18 Then the Lord God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him."

17 Satan deceived the woman.
Genesis 3: 16 To the woman He said, "I will greatly multiply your pain in childbirth, in pain you will bring forth children; Yet your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you."

18 Some object, “It isn’t fair for women today suffer for Eve’s sin so many years ago.”
- Jesus died because of it - Bear the consequences, not the guilt - Men still bear the consequences - Subjects lasts as long as pain in birth

19 Ephesians 5: Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body. 24 But as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything. I Corinthians 11: 3 – But I want you to understand that Christ is the head of every man, and the man is the head of a woman, and God is the head of Christ.

20 III. For women to learn submissively
is repulsive to our culture, but absolutely biblical.

21 The scripture is very clear.
I Timothy 2: 11 A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness. I Corinthians 14: 37-38 If anyone thinks he is a prophet or spiritual, let him recognize that the things which I write to you are the Lord's commandment. 38 But if anyone does not recognize this, he is not recognized.

22 I Corinthians 14: 34-36 The women are to keep silent in the churches; for they are not permitted to speak, but are to subject themselves, just as the Law also says. 35 If they desire to learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is improper for a woman to speak in church. 36 Was it from you that the word of God first went forth? Or has it come to you only?

23 This is not a cultural thing, it is the law of God which must be obeyed.

24 IV. Submission does not in any
way imply that women are inferior or incapable.

25 God views all Christians equally.
Galatians 6: 26-28 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free \man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

26 Submissive does not infer less ability.
Remember Abigail, Nabal’s wife ?

27 I Samuel 25: 3 (now the man’s name was Nabal, and his wife’s name was Abigail. And the woman was intelligent and beautiful in appearance, but the man was harsh and evil in his dealings, and he was a Calebite), I Samuel 25: 33 and blessed be your discernment, and blessed be you, who have kept me this day from bloodshed and from avenging myself by my own hand.

28 The scriptures stress this because it indicate a woman’s attitude toward God.
Remember : I Corinthians 11: 3 But I want you to understand that Christ is the head of every man, and the man is the head of a woman, and God is the head of Christ.

29 V. Though women may not teach men, they have a critical teaching ministry.

30 The future is in the hands of the women of today.
The men of tomorrow are being trained by the women of today. Proverbs 6: 20 My son, observe the commandment of your father And do not forsake the teaching of your mother;

31 Women are responsible to prepare the next generation of women.
Titus 2: Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, 4 so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored

32 God provided women with spiritual gifts to accomplish their mission.
Acts 21: 8-9 On the next day we left and came to Caesarea, and entering the house of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the seven, we stayed with him. 9 Now this man had four virgin daughters who were prophetesses.

33 There is a place for a woman to participate in the ministry of her husband.

34 Acts 18: 25-26 This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he was speaking and teaching accurately the things concerning Jesus, being acquainted only with the baptism of John; 26 and he began to speak out boldly in the synagogue. But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately.

35 Though such is repugnant to our
culture, the scriptures clearly teach that women may not be leaders in God ’s church.

36 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.
I Corinthians 11: 26
