Non-Luxury Segment Consideration
Highlights: SUVs have widened their consideration advantage over sedans due to drops in fuel prices. The consideration gap between the two segments has also increased from last quarter. Toyota Camry is the most considered model for sedans this year again, overtaking the Accord from Q2. Honda Odyssey takes most considered minivan spot from the Chrysler Town & Country last year (and also from the Toyota Sienna, the top model for Q2). Top 10 Considered Non-Luxury Vehicles
The redesign pushed the F-150 back into the top spot in consideration. Furthermore, the lower rank last year was affected by preparation for the model changeover to aluminum. The Honda Accord sedan refresh contributed to its gains from last year, helping it rise 3 ranks. The Sierra 1500 had the biggest gains from last year, as its redesign gains marketplace momentum. This puts them at the head of 4 categories, which is the most of any brand. Ram took the Interior Layout category from Chrysler and the Exterior Styling category from GMC. GMC overtook MINI in terms of Prestige/Sophistication. Luxury Segment Consideration
Highlights: BMW maintained its dominance in the sedan segment with the BMW 3 Series Buick took over the SUV segment with the Enclave. Buick may have benefited from the RX being in its final model year before redesign. With the CTS Coupe no longer available, the BMW 4 Series took top honors among luxury coupes, giving BMW a lock on this size class. Top 10 Considered Luxury Vehicles
Buick Enclave and Acura MDX jumped to the top in consideration, taking advantage of the trend towards SUVs. Tesla Model S and Acura RDX both made significant gains to enter the top 10 list. The Model S just had another record sales quarter, and consideration is growing – good signs for the brand as it launches the Model X SUV. Buick Encore and Acura TL dropped out of the top 10 list.
