Geometry November 30, 2016 Review: Triangle Congruence

2 DO NOW Find the value of each missing angle (1, 2, 3, 4).

3 Agenda Announcements (2nd hour only) Do Now Review Jeopardy!

4 I can name congruent objects, and determine if triangles are congruent.

5 Objective/Big Question
Review material for chapter 4 test (Friday)

6 4.1: Polygon Congruence Two polygons are congruent if you can match each vertex and side one-to-one.

7 4.1: Polygon Congruence Two polygons are congruent if you can move one to exactly cover the other.

8 4.1: Naming Congruent Polygons
Polygons are named by listing the vertices.

9 4.1: Triangle Congruence Two triangles are congruent if their corresponding angles and sides are congruent.

10 CPCTC: Corresponding Parts of Congruent Triangles are Congruent

11 4.2: Side-Side-Side Congruence
Two triangles are congruent if and only if all their corresponding sides are congruent.

12 4.2, 4.3: “Included” An “included” angle is formed by two sides An “included” side is between two angles

13 4.2: Side-Angle-Side Congruence
Two triangles are congruent if and only if two sides and the included angle are congruent.

14 4.3: Angle-Side-Angle Two triangles are congruent if and only if two angles the included side are congruent.

15 4.3: Angle-Angle-Side Two triangles are congruent if and only if two angles and one side are congruent.

16 Right Triangle Terminology

17 4.6: Hypotenuse-Leg Two right triangles are congruent if and only if one leg and the hypotenuse are congruent.

18 4.2, 4.3, 4.6: Summary SSS: Three pairs of congruent sides
SAS: Two pairs of congruent sides and the included angle ASA: Two congruent angles and the included side AAS: Two congruent angles and a non-included side HL: A right angle, a leg, and a hypotenuse

19 3.5: Third Angle Theorem Given two triangles, if two pairs of their angles are congruent, the third angles are also congruent.

20 3.5: Triangle Sum Theorem The sum of the angles of a triangle is always 180°

21 3.5: Exterior Angle Theorem

22 4.5: Isosceles Triangle Every isosceles triangle has two congruent SIDES and two congruent ANGLES.

23 4.5: Equilateral Triangle
A triangle has three congruent angles if and only if it is EQUILATERAL.

24 4.7: Overlapping Triangles
Try redrawing each triangle separately:

25 Jeopardy Rules Each group answers each question using the plastic sheets. Rotate the sheet around the group so that everyone answers. We don’t move on until at least half the groups answer correctly. Right to choose the next question rotates around the room.
