7 Background knowledge is essential to comprehension, to making connections, and to understanding the big ideas. Not taking the time to assess, activate, and build prior knowledge is like throwing the ball to an inexperienced basketball player and demanding that he play like a pro in the big game. cc: hlkljgk -

8 HELPFUL LINKS FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT PADLET
WHAT IT IS - Padlet is a virtual wall that allows people to express their thoughts on a common topic easily. It works like an online sheet of paper where people can put any content (e.g. images, videos, documents, text) anywhere on the page, together with anyone, from any device. HELPFUL LINKS FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT PADLET Helpful Youtube Video Tutorial Gallery of Padlet Examples Padlet: One of the Best All-Around Tools for Technology in the Classroom

9 JUST A FEW WAYS TO USE PADLET IN THE CLASSROOM*
BELL RINGER ACTIVITY Ask students what they remember from the previous day’s lesson. This is a great way for students to review content and give the teacher a clear picture of what still needs to be taught.. COLLABORATIVE BRAINSTORMING Students can post ideas during a brainstorming session. This can be done anonymously so shy students’ voices will be respresented.. PREDICTING ACTIVITY As you proceed through new content with students, stop and let them predict what will happen ext with notes on a Padlet. HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT Use Padlet as a Homework Assignment Storehouse. You can post links, images, videos, etc. to the Padlet so students and parents have access anytime from anywhere. COLLABORATIVE NOTETAKING While listening to a presentation, reading a chapter, watching a video, students work together to add notes to a Padlet to produce a resource they can refer to later PRESENTATIONS Students can use Padlet instead of posterboards for presentations. or groupwork. This way all students can easily review the content AND can refer to it later. * Matt Miller, Ditch That Textbook, 32 Interesting Ways to Use Padlet in the Classroom,
