1 Laboratory Safety

2 Dress Appropriately Long sleeves No shorts No open shoes Pull back long hair and baggy clothing

3 Working Environment Clear the workspace
All books, papers, backpacks, jackets, etc… out of the way Be organized Familiarize yourself with the location and operation of the safety equipment (fire extinguisher, fire blanket, safety shower, eye wash station, etc…)

4 Let’s Get To Work!!! Pay attention to the pre-lab presentation
If you have questions, ASK !!! Do not engage in any “unauthorized” experiments Always be aware of those around you Respect the chemicals If something breaks, tell the teacher No food or drink---Never WEAR YOUR GOGGLES, GLOVES, AND APRONS AT ALL TIMES

5 Now That We’re Done Dispose of all chemicals properly
Clean up your lab area WASH YOUR HANDS!!! LAB REPORTS ARE ALWAYS DUE ONE WEEK AFTER THE COMPLETION OF THE EXPERIMENT.

Graduated cylinder

7 Other Equipment Ring stand: Foundation for experiments.
Iron ring: Support. Wire gauze or clay triangle: Support. Crucible: Heating a substance to high temps. Evaporating dish: Drying a substance w/out heat. Bunsen burner: Source of heat.

8 Other Equipment Flame striker: Ignites the burner.
Funnel: Provides assistance in transferring liquid from one container into another. Watch glass: Transporting a sample or covering a sample Electronic Balance: Used to measure mass.

9 Other Equipment Test tube clamp: For holding an individual test tube.
Test tube rack: Support for holding several test tubes. Test tube brush: Used for cleaning test tubes. Beaker brush: Used for cleaning beakers. Tongs: Used to transport hot containers.
