1. East African Community (EAC)
East African Community (EAC) is a regional intergovernmental organization of 6 Partner States with recent joining of S. Sudan in March 2016 Population: million (Mid 2014), S. Sudan not included GDP (current market price): $147.5 billion (2015), S. Sudan not included EAC Headquarters: Arusha, Tanzania Regional cooperation on Health provided in the Treaty Chapter 21 (Article 118) of the EAC Treaty entered into July 2000, provides for medicines regulation harmonization

The pharmaceutical sector is among the six priority sectors in the EAC Industrialization strategy and policy. Implementation of the Common Market Protocol Strong private sector representation in EAC decision making process (Consultative Dialogue Framework)

Public health perspective of Promoting local production of Medicines
Ensures Sustainable of supply of essential medicines and better able to respond to emergencies. Better capacity to control counterfeit and substandard medicines. Improved capacity to find therapeutic solutions for diseases of public health concern in the region .
