12 Timings of the Day Please select relevant schedule for your key stage and delete the other. Mention water bottle, PE kit in every day, be on time, daily fruit. We recommend that children below year 6 are collected from school by an adult, particularly in the autumn term as the afternoons become darker. Should you be a parent of a child year 5 or younger and you wish for them to walk home alone, please make an appointment to see the class teacher to discuss – written permission will be required. Please mention that children should leave the school site promptly at the end of the day and not stay around to (e.g) play football/climb equipment etc.

Spanish: This will be taught by our Spanish teacher who is fluent in the language. Music: Miss Phillips teaches music across the school as part of the PPA system. She also runs music clubs, such as choir. Should you be interested in you child having peripatetic instrumental lessons, please see the office who will contact Miss Phillips. Please insert a visual of your autumn overview. Mention that overviews/curriculum info will be available on the class blog. Talk about the new National Curriculum expectations and the fact that the expectations of attainment have been ramped up by roughly a year. This means that we are ‘playing catch up’ in terms of getting children to meet the new ‘Age Expected’ levels by the end of each Key Stage – we will need your help and support to work in partnership to enable children to succeed. Years 2 & 6 make clear to parents that the SATs test format and marking and reporting has completely changed (e.g. year 2 children will sit a grammar test!) – more detail to follow.

15 English Reading Writing Grammar, Punctuation & Spelling
Speaking and Listening Talk about the use of literacy and language programme (for years 2-6) and the linked homework book (you will hear about this on the training day!). Emphasise S&L (v high profile in new NC) and talk about opportunities for discussion at home. Target cards. Spelling will be more visible this year – in planner books (see planner section).

16 Target Cards Please insert a new slide with the inside of your year group’s target card for writing (found in SF/Others/Deputy and assistant heads/curriculum and assessment/target cards/writing). Pick up salient targets of note for the year group. Talk about how the TC will be used to set targets and shared at PE. They will have a copy and it will be available on the class blog. Any help at home towards the targets would be great!

23 Only one planner for year – please be careful with it!
Please select the relevant insert for your Key Stage and talk about the way the new planner will work (information will be given at the first training day). Ch to have planner on them at all times! Parents to be actively enaged with planners and looking at them daily. Reading expectations: 5x per week (10 minutes), signed in planner. Reading star charts to be displayed in class and photographed for blog. Make clear to the parents that it has been proven that the best way to help your primary school aged child progress is by reading aloud with them daily. Maths – 5x a week on skills practise – outline that this could be in the car/walking to school etc… Spellings to be learnt the following week will be in the weekly planner and tests will be conducted in the planner so that you can see areas for further development.

24 Inside the Planner KS2 Mention the amendments this year – Weeks now run Sat to Friday as teachers sign planners on Fridays. There is now space for 10 words in the spelling test section. Spelling words to be learnt will be photocopied and stuck in, so all words spelt correctly. Test will take place in planner weekly. Same expectations for reading and maths home learning 5 times a week. Little and often has proved to be most effective way to learn tables etc.

25 Progress and Assessment
Formal feedback three times a year via parents/carers’ evenings and end of year reports Attainment will be reported against age related expectations Include new assessment info e.g. ‘below’ ‘at’ and ‘above’, parents evenings, reports. IEP process – parents in in first few weeks to meet with teacher to set targets.

26 Year Group Blogs www.hayesparkblogs.net
Change this year to a year group blog rather than a class blog. Please get the school blog site up prior to the start of the meeting so that you can show ‘live’ content as you talk through this section. Please emphasise to parents that we have received and listened to their feedback on knowing what the children are learning etc. and that this is their first port of call in terms of year group communication. Show them how to get to the site (and draw their attention to the flyer about the blog site and twitter that they have been given as part of the meeting). The blog will have two main uses for them: 1) it will contain information about the curriculum and notices relevant to the class etc (communication tab), as well as specific subject information and user guides (this is a big part of the sip – teachers/students creating user guides to exemplify methods/explain homework etc.) It would be AMAZING if prior to the parent meeting you could have one on there – maybe ‘what the addition method looks like in your year group’ for e.g. Feel free to share the school journey page or the sports page as examples. 2) The blog is for the children. There may be tasks set or questions posed by teachers, but any of the children can write about something they are interested in – it may be the topic they are studying. This is their opportunity to write to a wider audience. They may have a question that could be answered by someone on the other side of the world (we will be liking with a global audience!). It is safe – no writing is authorised to be seen publically unless the teacher has viewed it first. The children all have a log in (this will be in their planner books). Please encourage your child to go to the ‘book review’ tab and post a book review to help other children make choices (as well as practise their writing skills!).

28 Other Useful ICT Year Group Blogs
Whole school blogs (e.g. sports/music/reading etc.) Twitter (please sign We now have year group twitter accounts which will be tweeting content from the year group’s blog Bug Club RmEasi maths MyMaths Education City School website Fronter SeeSaw TWITTER – recruitment drive. Please get our Twitter feed up on the screen to show them some of the things they are missing out on if they are not following us! ALL parents to open an account and follow school (help guide provided) – this will be one of our main communication routes this year as well as a way of celebrating all the amazing things that we do as a community. A leaflet will be provided for parents showing them how to do this. Blogs – communication/homework/support guides/opportunities to write/book reviews – encourage the children to get involved- parents can leave comments too! Space in planner for all log in details. Need to come in and see CT if an issue with access/log ins etc. Fronter – I think only lower school really use this now – please feel free to delete if it is not being used by your year group, and talk about it if it is – we really want to move all activity to the blogs and will not be supporting Fronter in the long term.

29 Safeguarding Hayes Park School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and expects its staff and volunteers to share in this commitment. We have a school Child Protection Policy and procedures in place to support this. Parents and carers are welcome to read this policy on request or via the policy section of our school website. Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns regarding a child’s welfare. We will ensure that wherever possible our concerns are discussed with a child’s parents or carers unless we believe this may compromise a child’s safety or welfare. Our designated Child Protection Staff are: Rachel Bates, Deputy Head Janna Murphy, Assistant Head Sarah Parkinson, Year 3 Team Leader Sarah Blakey, Foundation Stage Leader If you have any concerns regarding a child’s welfare please report this in confidence to a member of the Child Protection Team as soon as possible. This is the statement that is on our website. Teachers are under a legal duty to investigate any concerns that are raised by children. These have to be investigated either in school or by the local authority services. We hope that families receive the necessary support from school. Please see next slide. We have a family support worker and

30 Other Services Pupil Premium Attendance Family Support Acorns
Family life and parenting is a challenge whatever the circumstances, and we are here to work with you and support you in anyway we can. These are additional services. If you are receiving any kind of income support, we would urge you to try the PP checker (see Mrs Van Santen) This can entitle your child to a wide range of services and offers funding to the school which benefits all pupils. The participation service will follow up on any low attendance – below 95%. We have a range of support should attendance be difficult for your family, including breakfast/afterschool club, family support worker, behaviour strand manager and other individual plans. This must be a working partnership. The Acorns is an additional support for all children in our school, it is a distraction free learning environment with highly specialist resources and staff. We hope that all children will experience the wonderful learning environment we have at some point.

31 Mobile Phones No mobile phones in school except Year 6 , and then only if there is a concern about a child walking home alone. If this is the case, a consent form will be required (these are at the back of the hall). This must be completed and signed by a parent/carer. The phone will need to be handed to the class teacher in soft start and will be kept in the classroom safe, to be returned at the end of the day. Should mobile phones be found in lockers/children’s possession within the school day, the right will be withdrawn.

32 Communication and Feedback
Please talk about appropriate times to speak to the class teacher. All class teachers tend to be in school from 8am. Unless an emergency it will not be possible to see them during soft start, however, they will usually be able to see you before/after school if an appointment is made in advance. Please arrange this through the school office if possible.

33 Thank you Please add own thanks!
