Starter Open up the “What Am I Task Sheet” and work through the clues independently. You have 5 minutes before the answers are to be discussed as a group…

INFO 3: Use of ICT In The Digital World
Topic 8: Development Methods (Installation, Conversion and Changeover) Electronic Chapter: 9
3
Objectives At the end of the lesson, students should be able to: -
Explain the different Maintenance types and describe their purpose Investigate and explain two different methodologies and their advantages and disadvantages
4
Exam Practice Once conversion has taken place the system will need to be maintained. Explain what is meant by system maintenance and give two examples of tasks that would normally be completed as part of this maintenance. (4 marks) Describe two different methodologies of system maintenance, giving an example in each case to illustrate your answer. (4 marks)
5
Assessment Objectives (Outcome)
Grade E/D Standard: Be able to define what the term maintenance means and describe its purpose. Achieve more than 40% of the exam style question. Grade C/B Standard: Be able to describe the differences between each maintenance method, as well as highlight a number of advantages/disadvantages of each. Achieve 60% or more of the exam style question. Grade A Standard: Be able to research and describe the different methodologies used, and their advantages/disadvantages, as well as justify which method is the better method to use. Achieve 80% or more in the exam style questions.
6
Maintenance – What is it?
Activity 1 – Describe what the term maintenance means from an ICT perspective? Activity 2 – List down reasons why maintenance is needed. (10 minutes)
7
Answers to be briefly discussed as a group.
Maintenance Once the system is installed into the organisation it will need to be maintained. There are three different types of maintenance that can happen to a system. Activity 3 – Sort the Maintenance cards with their definitions. (Paired – 5 minutes) Activity 4 – Make note of these maintenance and come up with appropriate examples (Independent / Paired – 10 minutes) Answers to be briefly discussed as a group.
8
Review / Evaluation At the end of the project it is important to evaluate the system. The created system is evaluated against : Client Requirements Quantitative and Qualitative Objectives Users / Clients opinions on project delivery It would also include project members own opinions about the progress of the project as a whole.
9
Methodologies – Odds Vs Evens
In Systems Development there are 2 main methodologies that are adopted. The methodology is either Linear or Iterative. Activity 7 (Paired – 10 minutes)– ODDS are to read the passage on linear methods EVENS are to read the passage on iterative methods. When informed ODDS are to pair up with an EVEN and share your learning. Between you complete the tasks outlined on your passage sheet. Answers to be briefly discussed as a group.
10
Summary 3-2-1 3 Name all three maintenance methods learnt this lesson. 2 Give one example of where or why corrective maintenance and one example of where and why perfective maintenance may be used. Explain the difference between linear and iterative methodologies. State one advantage for each. 1

Topic 8 Tasks Open the Task sheet “Topic 8: Development Methods (Conversion and Changeover pt2)” worksheet up from Moodle and complete all tasks outlined. Anything you do not complete in lesson, is to be completed as part of your homework. Ask your teacher for a copy of the answers for the exam style questions to self assess your own answers
