9 Did you know? More children die of childhood cancer than any other disease in the U.S., and every year 300,000 kids worldwide are diagnosed. And cancer doesn’t care about borders, race, nationality, age, socioeconomic status or religion—it can strike any child at any time.

10 Ike is a childhood cancer fighter who just finished treatment for
acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is a cancer of the white blood cells that normally fight infection. The cells do not grow and develop properly, filling up the bone marrow inside bones, where blood is normally made ALL is the most common type of childhood cancer, accounting for 35% of all cancers in children. Each year, there are about 2,900 new cases of children and adolescents diagnosed with ALL in the United States alone. Ike’s strength and attitude has inspired friends and family to adopt the motto “Tough Like Ike!” After all, being a normal kid is what Ike’s always wanted. And now that he’s only going in to the hospital for check-ups every two months, he’s able to get back to doing just that.

13 TIGER SAFETY Please remember to respect each other's personal space, and responsibly keep hands, feet, and other to yourselves. This means games such as necking and 5 star are prohibited. We understand friends play these games with one another, but also know these playful actions can escalate and lead to unwanted outcomes, not only for the participants, but for others in the vicinity. These infractions will be taken seriously, and responded to sternly. Please continue being a Tiger that ROARS!

15 YEARBOOK UPDATE The January 30th deadline for purchasing a yearbook online has passed and the final order number has been placed. At this point, students that have not ordered a yearbook will have opportunities to purchase one when the shipment arrives. Announcements regarding when/where students can purchase a yearbook will be made in school and in the Tiger's Tale newsletter when the time approaches.

17 Character Counts Pillar for February: Trustworthiness
There was a farmer who sold a pound of butter to the baker. One day the baker decided to weigh the butter to see if he was getting a pound and he found that he was not. This angered him and he took the farmer to court. The judge asked the farmer if he was using any measure. The farmer replied, your Honor, I am primitive. I don’t have a proper measure, but I do have a scale.” The judge asked, “Then how do you weigh the butter?” The farmer replied “Your Honor, long before the baker started buying butter from me, I have been buying a pound loaf of bread from him. Every day when the baker brings the bread, I put it on the scale and give him the same weight in butter. If anyone is to be blamed, it is the baker.” What is the moral of this story? Who was being trustworthy and who was not? Would you rather do business with the farmer or the baker? What would this court case reveal about the character of each of them? Would there be a consequence to their business success or failure because of this?
