When You Say You Believe In Jesus
More is involved than “historical faith.” More than a good man, powerful teacher who altered history.
3
I Believe Jesus Was The Jews’ Messiah
What’s that worth? Jesus’ exchange with the Samaritan woman. John 4:25-42 A critical plant in the platform of faith.
4
I Believe Jesus’ Doctrine
Relation between doctrine and faith—a disciple is an adherent to teaching Cf. John 6:45 A drunk, immoral person, or plain mean may contend for doctrine. These are hardly true believers. Doctrinal faith is not the whole of faith.
5
I Believe Jesus Is The Son of God
Jesus’ question….blind man’s answer. John 9:35-38 Nathanael. John 1:49 “Son of God” faith and “messiah faith.” 1st asserts His deity. “I AM.” cf. John 8:58 2nd asserts Him to be the anointed One of prophecy to save man

Needed: A Higher Level of Faith.
Do you believe Jesus AS Lord? Involves surrender, submission. Acts 9:6 Do you believe Jesus WHO promises? Promises: basis of hope. Hope: extension of faith. Cf. Jn. 11:23-27 “He is faithful That promised.” Heb. 10:23: 11:11 “Self” must be evicted as ruler. The kind of faith to sustain in times of crisis. Faith without hope is likely to fail. Heb. 6:19

Conclusion: Faith is more than merely believing “about Jesus.”
Must believe “in” Him. May begin at historical faith… But it must lead to the other levels of faith. These should lead to submission.
