Law of conservation of mass: Matter is neither created nor destroyed!
Steel is made of Iron (Fe) and Carbon (C). When steel wool is burned, it reacts with the oxygen in the room to make a coating of Iron oxide (Fe2O3) on the surface of the wool. This is why it gains mass! COOL!
