2 UNSCHEDULED CARE PROGRAMME IN NHSGGC
HUGE IMPROVEMENTS THROUGHOUT THE NHS BOARD IN TERMS OF PROCESSES WITHIN A&E NHS BOARD MOVED FROM 81% COMPLIANCE IN APRIL 2006 TO 98% IN DECEMBER 2007 USE OF INFORMATION / ANALYSIS PLAYED A BIG PART IN MOVING THINGS FORWARD

3 GAINS IN PERFORMANCE HAVE BEEN ACHIEVED AGAINST UNDERLYING GROWTH TRENDS OF 3-3.5% PER ANNUM ACROSS THE NHS BOARD FOR BOTH NEW A&E ATTENDERS AND EMERGENCY INPATIENT ADMISSIONS THIS IS NOT SUSTAINABLE IN THE LONG TERM 3.5% GROWTH PER ANNUM IN NHSGGC EQUATES TO AN EXTRA 306 NEW ATTENDERS PER WEEK

4 DRIVE AT NHS BOARD LEVEL TO REFINE INFORMATION TO ALLOW US TO MANAGE SERVICE DEMAND
DEPARTMENTAL / DEMAND PROFILING SUPPLEMENTING EXISTING ELECTRONIC DATA SYSTEMS

5 NHSGGC A&E SURVEY PLAN TO CARRY OUT THE SURVEY IN SEPTEMBER / OCTOBER 2009 WILL COVER APPROXIMATELY HALF OF THE DEPARTMENTS IN THE NHS BOARD AREA SAMPLE SIZE WILL BE 10-12K PATIENTS

6 MAIN OBJECTIVES OF THE A&E SURVEY
To collect an enhanced dataset in terms of patients referral paths and reasons for referral To identify more accurately the split between “ minor injury “ and “ minor illness “ in each of the departments. To assess the attitudes of “frequent attenders” ( defined as 10 or more visits in the last year ) to services in A&E and the potential for alternative care pathways To identify with greater accuracy the proportion of patients where the ingestion of alcohol and / or drugs has played a part in the injury / illness

FEB – MAR 2009 : FUNDING OBTAINED FROM SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT TO CARRY OUT THE SURVEY APR – JULY 2009 : OPERATIONAL PLANNING OF SURVEY EXERCISE SEPT – OCT 2009 : SURVEY CARRIED OUT OCT – DEC 2009 : DATA INPUT OF SURVEY RESULTS JAN – FEB 2010 : ANALYSIS AND REPORTING OF RESULTS
