4 -1979, Batas Pambansa No.20 created a regional autonomous government in the western and central Mindanao regions. -ARMM was created on August 1, 1989 through Republic Act No.6734 (also known as Organic Act) -November 6, 1990, ARMM was officially inaugurated in Cotabato City which was designated as its provincial capital. -R.A No.9054 sought to expand the territory and power of ARMM by amending the Organic Act. -R.A No.9054 lapsed into law on March 31, 2001 -Marawi City and Basilan (except Isabela City) opted to be included in ARMM -has the lowest capita of gross regional domestic product -is the poorest region in the country -education and infrastructure are lowest in the country -top producers of fish and marine products, particularly seaweed -has a large mineral deposit of gold and copper

-Isabela City (capital but not part of ARMM) -chartered city on july 1, 1948 -converted province on dec. 27, 1973 -total area of sq.km -component cities (Isabela and Lamitan) -11 municipalities, 255 barangays including Isabela -agriculture and fishing are the main source of economy “LAMI-LAMIHAN CITY”

Lanao del Sur “GSV LMOB RHOZNRX XRGB RM GSV KSROKKRMVH” -founded on 1959 -Marawi City (capital) -total area 3, sq.km -1 city, 39 municipalities, 1,159 barangays -Lanao lake largest lake in Mindanao, Darangen Epic Chants of Maranao inscribed as a UNESCO intangible Cultural heritage since 2008 “THE ONLY ISLAMIC CITY IN THE PHILIPPINES”

Maguindanao “KLORGRXZO WBMZHGB GLDM” -founded on nov.22, 1973 -capital; Buluan (executive) and Sultan Kudarat (legislative) -total area of sq.km -1 independent city ( Cotabato City ), 36 municipalities, 508 barangays; 545 including independent city. -Maguindanaon culture revolves around kulintang music, a specific type of gong music “POLITICAL DYNASTY TOWN”

Sulu “SLNV GL NRMWZMZL’H LIRTRMZO ILBZOGRVH” -founded on march 10, 1917 -capital; Jolo and Patikul (seat of government) -total area of 1, sq.km -19 municipalities, 410 barangays -economy relies on farming, fishing and an extensive pearl industry “HOME OF MINDANAO’S ORIGINAL ROYALTIES”

-founded on Sept.11, 1973 -capital; Bongao -total area of 1, sq.km -11 municipalities, 203 barangays -main source of livelihood is agriculture and seaweed farming. “VENICE OF THE SOUTH”
