2 The Window What is the irony of the story “The Window”?
The irony in the story is that there were two men that became friends in a hospital. One man became jealous of where the other man was. There was one man by a window. The man by the window would tell stories of the things he saw outside of the window. The jealous man allowed the other man to die so that he can have the window. Ironically, there was nothing outside but a brick wall.

3 The Window Compare the ending with the movie.
The ending in the story was tragic because the man killed his friend for no reason. He died because he did not press the emergency button. The ending in the movie was died in the operating table and did not come back. His friend realized that the man that died would tell him stories so he can make him feel better.

4 The Interlopers What is a static and a dynamic character? Define the characters in the story. A static character does not change and a dynamic character changes. In “The Interlopers”, Ulrich and Georg are dynamic characters because they went into the woods wanting to kill each other and they wound up being friends.

5 TheNecklace How can you compare Matilda with Puerto Rican society?
Matilda wanted to live off of appearances and she wasted her youth and beauty to pay off a necklace. Puerto Rican society tend to live off of appearances and we wind up in debt.

6 TheNecklace How did hiding the truth affect Matilda?
Hiding the truth cost Matilda her beauty and youth.

7 The Yellow Ribbon How can we consider the beheading a romantic ending?
The beheading is considered a romantic ending because she gave her husband her entire life including her death.

8 The Yellow Ribbon How did her husband’s curiosity killed the main character? Her husband’s insistence caused the main character because he would constantly ask her and at the end she did not want to leave him in doubt. It caused the main character to die prematurely.

9 The Tell Tale Heart What is the symbolism of the eye in this story?
The eye can symbolize what the narrator saw in the old man. What he saw was a bad person. The eye symbolizes the pathway to a person’s soul.

10 The Tell Tale Heart What conflict does the narrator have?
The narrator has a person vs. himself conflict because he thought that he was not crazy. However, he thought to himself constantly why did he want to kill him until he kills him and his conscious ultimately makes him confess his crime.

11 The Tell Tale Heart What is the symbolism of the beating heart?
The symbolism of the beating heart was the heart of the old man or that his time was coming to an end. This is the reason that the narrator decides to confess his crime.

12 The Story of an Hour What does the statement “the joy that kills” mean? The joy that kills meant that the only way that our main character could be happy or free was with her own death. If she would have stayed alive, she would have lived a miserable existance.

13 The Story of an Hour Compare Louise Mallard to women in the early 1900’s? Mrs. Mallard was a typical woman in the 1900’s. She had to do everything that her husband would say, she would have to live through any abuse and the only way to divorce her husband would be if their husband’s died.
