Safety in the Photo Lab Photography is cool!

Procedures when working in the darkroom
Use a tray to transport wet prints around the lab, otherwise you will leave a trail of water or chemistry through the lab.

Notify the teacher immediately of any spills, and clean up any minor spills or drips to prevent slip hazards.

To avoid skin contact with chemicals wear rubber gloves when handling chemistry.

To avoid eye contact with chemistry, wear goggles or safety glasses.

MSDSʼs (Material Safety Data Sheets) are available in the Photo Lab MSDS Binder
located on the wall to the right of the entrance door.

No food is allowed in the room
No food is allowed in the room. Chemical residue is left on surfaces and can contaminate your food. Any snacks need to be eaten in the hallway with teacher permission.

In case of physical contact with eyes, nose, or mouth immediately use the emergency eyewash located in the darkroom. Permanent eye damage can occur LESS THAN 15 SECONDS from chemical contact with the eye. If necessary, call 911.

Sharp Tools Clean up after yourself.
Never leave exacto knives, pinhole camera pins, or paper cutting blades exposed. All knives must be signed out by students, and return any exacto knives to the teacher and sign out with the teacher present.
