ORIGINS Formed in 1996 in the Los Angeles suburb of Agoura Hills, Linkin Park is composed of members - and high school friends - Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, Rob Bourdon, Joe Hahn, and Dave Farrell. Their original lead singer until about 1999 was Mark Wayfield, while the band was still known as Hybrid Theory. He was later replaced by Chester Bennington (who had just left the group known as Grey Daze). The band then changed their name to Linkin Park and began their legacy.

MUSIC Despite their rock-like appearance, the music of Linkin Park actually falls under the category of music know as nümetal ( a music genre that combines the music styling of rock, hip-hop, alternative metal, and punk). Throughout their 17 years as a band, Linkin Park has released 6 albums (not counting the albums done by members for other groups). These albums include: Hybrid Theory (2000), Reanimation (2002), Meteora (2003), Minuets to Midnight (2007), Living Things (2012), and the in process album of 2014, Recharged.

FAME Over their years as a band, Linkin Park has steadily grown in (and continues to grow in) popularity & fame. Their first album (Hybrid Theory) sold over half a million copies within the first year of release. Their next albums did even better with Meteora selling 800,000 copies within its first week of release. Minuets to Midnight then sold 625,000, making it one of the most successful debut week albums in recent years. Totally Linkin Park has sold 50 million album copies.

BAND MEMBERS In Linkin Park all the band members have various jobs. Chester Bennington does lead vocals and rhythm guitar. Rob Burdon plays the drums. Brad Delson is the lead guitarist of the band. David “Phoenix” Farrell does both bass and backup vocals. We have Mr. Hahn on turntables, programming and samples. And finally, Mike Shinoda is the band’s rapper, vocalist, rhythm guitarist, and keyboardist.

CHARITY WORK A few of the sings released by Linkin Park were not actually planned to be on any album, but created after great disasters to help raise money for the devastated country. On January 19th 2010, Linkin Park released the song “Not Alone” to help raise awareness for the earthquake that decimated Haiti, and every digital download donated money to Haiti. The same was done for the tsunami crisis of 2011 in Japan with the song “Issho Ni” (We’re Not Alone). Next year they will have a concert with another band known as The Offspring in hopes to raise money for the damaged Philippines.

SIDE PROJECTS Despite being all involved as active members of Linkin Park, many of the band’s members are involved in other music groups. Some of these groups include Fort Minor, Dead by Sunrise, and Depeche Mode. They have also been featured with various artists like Jay-Z, Kings of Leon, Iron Maiden, and Metallica. Linkin Park’s music has been used on the sound tracts of various movies like - and including being the main theme of - Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and a movie to soon be released titled Mall.

ACHIEVEMENTS Since the formation of the band, Linkin Park has been nominate for over 108 awards, over half of which they have won. They have even been awarded two Grammies for “Best Hard Rock Performance” and “Best Rap/Sung Collaboration” (with Jay-Z). Their labels are Warner Bros. and Machine Shop. They have also played on six of the seven continents of the world.

Future In the coming year, Linkin Park will be touring the world! Soon to come they will be playing in the USA, Germany, United Kingdom, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Japan, and the Philippines. Their coming album, Recharged, will be released sometime after the new year as well. Long Live Linkin Park!
