1 MAGIC Macarthur Access Group for Inclusive Communities
The work of MAGIC is underpinned by the rights of all people to access and be included in a community that respects and accepts difference

3 Statistics In Australia 3.6 million people, or 19 percent of the population, have a disability In addition, more than half of people aged 55 years and over have difficulties with mobility, sight and hearing

4 Why MAGIC was created The MAGIC project commenced in late 2013 as a response to consultations with families of people with disability which identified challenges accessing services, businesses and the broader community

5 The aim of MAGIC The MAGIC project aims to assist the business owner to understand how to improve access and inclusion. Small changes in a business can lead to significant economic, commercial and social benefits for the business and for the lives of people with disability

6 Benefits to businesses
Improving access will also assist your business to meet your legal responsibilities You could be missing out on potential customers Support is provided on how to improve access and inclusion at the business Information resources are provided Promotion of the business via the local media, websites and newsletters MAGIC is a free initiative

7 A place of MAGIC The MAGIC project is encouraging businesses across Macarthur to apply to become a place of MAGIC and through doing so commit to the MAGIC charter.

8 The MAGIC Charter As a place of MAGIC you are committed to:
1. Promoting inclusive communities: this space is welcoming to people of all abilities 2. Thinking differently about customer service: we treat customers of all abilities with respect 3. Celebrating the diversity: in an inclusive community 4. Making sure our business is easy and safe to use: we will ensure our business is easy to find, easy to get into and easy to get around

5. Considering the benefits of employing people with a disability: a person with a disability can be the best fit 6. Speaking up against prejudice and discrimination: we name it when we see it and won’t tolerate it, ever 7. Trying to be the best we can be: we are proud to be a place of MAGIC, so if something isn’t ok please let us know

11 Website & Mobile App The Website and Mobile App provide details on inclusive and accessible businesses within Macarthur. Members of the community have the option to submit reviews on local businesses.
