1 Evangelism: Is There Really a Need?
Scripture Reading: Is 55:11

2 Introduction When you consider the answer to the question in the title for the sermon this morning, consider this The Mormons of Salt Lake City have a greater total membership than the Lord’s church today How do we justify in our minds that people are doing a better job of selling Joe Smith to the world than we are doing proving Jesus Christ is the Son of God, our Savior, and Lord of our lives Which truly seems harder to believe based on evidence today? Do we believe the words which we just read from Is 55:11? Do we believe that if we sow the seed God will provide the increase (cf. 1 Cor 3:6)

3 Proof 1 We Need To Evangelize
We are taught to follow Christ’s example Lk 19:10 “10 for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” God could have chosen to use His Son in any manner He wished, He chose to make Him a soul winner The first 12 men Christ chose were chosen to be soul winners One exception: Judas became a traitor to the cause

4 Proof #2 We Need to Evangelize
The Church has many capable “workers in the huddle” but is severely lacking in workers moving from the huddle to the field (Lk 10:1-2) Christ is the head of the church but we are to be His hands and His feet The head controls the actions of the body to accomplish any given task If the body isn’t responding and acting, work is not getting done We are expected to be Salt and light (Mt 5:13-14) Salt acts a both a seasoning and a preservative How can we preserve anything we don’t come into contact with

5 Proof #3 We Need to Evangelize
We need to have a more genuine concern for the Lost We read and say we understand Jn 3:16 but do we really understand that if God truly wants all to be saved, we should want and work for that as well Consider how Christ described God’s concern for the lost Mt 18:12-14 Lk 15: The Lost Sheep Lk 15: The Lost Coin Lk 15: The Prodigal son If you were living in an area where everyone was suffering with a terminal illness and you came across the cure, would you share it As you walk past the various homes in your neighborhood, how many do you think contain families that are lost…what are you willing to do about it

6 Proof #4 We Need To Evangelize
The scope of the need: the field is the world We are taught and sing; red and yellow black and white, they are precious in His sight We are to teach every creature Mt 13:38 “38 The field is the world, the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked one.” Our opportunities are unlimited Jn 4:35-38 “35 Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest! 36 And he who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. 37 For in this the saying is true: ‘One sows and another reaps.’ 38 I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored, and you have entered into their labors.”

7 How Do We Meet the Need to Evangelize
The early church carried out the great commission in 29 years Jesus made the following statement in in AD 33 Mk 16:15-16 “15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.” Paul penned the following in AD 62 Col 1:23 “23 if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.” The Lord’s plan is multiplicative in that as more individuals are taught and baptized convert and teach others those they teach do the same and so on, and so on Teaching is the second half of Christianity…evangelism is not complete until the evangelized become the evangelist 2 Tim 2:2 “2 And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.”

8 Conclusion The proof is out there and easy to see
God’s creation chose to turn from Him (Rom 3:23) God desires His creation to repent and turn to Him God created a plan to save His creation God’s plan is for those that have chosen to return to Him share His Word and bring others to Him If we are present here today in a saved condition, let us never forget it is because someone took the time to evangelize to us and we ought to do the same for others Evangelism: Is there really a need? Yes, and we are to fulfill it
