Welcome to AP CS Principles!

What is cs principles? Two overarching themes:
1) Thinking “computationally” (i.e., creative problem solving) 2) Computing innovations affect our lives for better and for worse. Though this is not strictly a programming class, there will be a substantial programming component. We will begin programming in C++ in mid-late October.

Ap exam The AP exam consists of three parts:
“Explore” Performance Task (16%) describe a computational artifact and its effects. “Create” Performance Task (24%) create a program and explain its functionality. Two-hour multiple-choice exam (74 questions) (60%). The College Board requires students be given 20 hours of class time (12 classes) for the PTs. Eight hours for “Explore”; 12 hours for “Create.” The multiple-choice exam will take place on Friday, May 11, 2018.

What will class be like? Assignments will typically fall into one of the following categories: Worksheets Short AP practice responses Writing C++ code/programs Longer-term writing assignments (1-2 per quarter) There will be some very high-level discrete math. Not calculus—think logic and number theory. Curriculum: “CS50” by Harvard.

How am I graded? Major assignments: 70%
Includes quizzes, tests, and practice PTs (i.e., direct practice for the AP exam). Not eligible for redo. Minor assignments (everything else): 30% Eligible for redo at teacher’s discretion (THS policy).

Class policies You are expected to be in your seat working when the bell rings. Show work on assignments. Respect your peers! Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Have fun!!

Internet censorship August 13: Daily Stormer is informed by GoDaddy its domain registration will be terminated in 24 hours because of terms of service violation. August 14: Daily Stormer moves its domain registration to Google, which almost immediately cancels the account and terminates its YouTube account. August 15: Site registers with Tucows, which canceled the registration several hours later. Site temporarily moved to the dark web. August 16: Cloudfare (DNS host) terminates Daily Stormer’s account.

Internet censorship August 17: Daily Stormer temporarily locates to a Russian host. Russian federal service Roskomnadzor shut down the account shortly thereafter. August 18: Daily Stormer returns at dailystormer.lol, hosted by Namecheap. August 20: Namecheap terminates Daily Stormer’s account. August 27: Daily Stormer returns with a domain based in Albania (.al), hosted by Chinese service. August 30: Albanian domain registrar announces it has blocked access to dailystormer.al.

Internet censorship August 14: Facebook announces it will take steps to prevent the article from being shared: All shares without comments will be deleted. All shares with comments will be reviewed by a human and will be deleted if they do not explicitly condemn the post or the domain.
