1. Family crest project part I: the crest
Design a family crest to represent your family. Include:
Family last name or names
Family motto—a statement that says something about the way you live
Family values—at least four ideals that are important to your family
Your family culture or nationalities
These ideas must be represented with both illustrations and Spanish words. Your crest should be hand drawn, colorful and neatly done.

2. Family crest project part II: the essay
On the back of your crest, you will write a brief essay (100+ words) about your family. Include:
An introduction about your family members
An important physical object with explanation
Mi piano es algo importante porque la música es mi passion.
A family value with explanation
en mi familia valoramos la sinceridad porque…
How interactions with your family changes your perspective
Las interacciones entre los miembros de mi familia cambian mi perspectiva porque…
a family tradition or activity that is important to you

3. timeline
Monday: rough draft of family crest, work on it at home if necessary
Tuesday: decoration of family crest, finishing at home if necessary
Wednesday: write essay during class, after 15-minute cube activity
Both parts due Wednesday at the end of class. Double daily grade to start the nine weeks—one for essay and one for crest. Make it count!
