1 …Then It Makes Life Better GLOBAL PERSPECTIVES
Life Imitates Design …Then It Makes Life Better GLOBAL PERSPECTIVES

2 Life Should Inspire Your Work

3 “Life” But what does “life” mean?
This is based on the individual, their community, the country, their place in the world. Let’s get some perspectives on different issues throughout the world…

4 Groceries Around the World

5 Etiquette

6 Strange Food

7 Are We That Different? Is there anything that might be considered strange about the food we eat? Our customs? Our traditions?

8 A Question When a group of young people where asked were asked “How might we expose students to a variety of new languages and cultures in an innovative way?” they came up with an innovative solution. Knowing that food ALWAYS brings people together, they designed an initiative where their classmates got to experience, try and taste foods from around the world.

9 A Solution In doing so, they also exposed the students to words from the culture they were exploring, customs and traditions. It was an innovative way to bring culture to students. Which was informative and fun.

10 Another Solution Using the same question “How might we expose students to a variety of new languages and cultures in an innovative way?” other students studying Italy realized the soccer culture that was prevalent in the country. They set up a booth where other students like them got to design their own soccer jersey using mini cut-outs, markers stickers etc. In order to get a material to design their jersey, they had to say the name of the material (which was made available to them) in Italian.

11 Now to your task. You will do the same.
You design, research and implement your answer to the same question: “How might we expose students to a variety of new languages and cultures in an innovative way?”

12 The Process EMPATHY: You will first get to know your audience. Both those of different cultures and languages and those who want to know about them them. What do we NEED to know? What do we WANT to know? IDEATE: From there you will brainstorm different ideas. Make them new, unique, innovate and engaging. The further outside the box you go, the better.

13 PROTOTYPE: Spend a class building this and making it legitimate.
TEST: Share your project with your classmates. Get their feedback, make it better. ITERATE: After making it better, you will present your solution or innovation to your “community” at large. This will happen March 8/ March 9. It’s the real deal!

14 “How might we expose students to a variety of new languages and cultures in an innovative way?”
Start with empathy…

15 See your assignment outline
For more see your assignment outline! Note this assignment isn’t so much about teaching as it is about designing an activity. There should be no presentations, instead, and engaging activity which exposes others to the language/culture you choose. Also note: you DO NOT have to know the language/culture. Instead, you’ll do research to get to know the basics…that’s all you need to know!
