OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY EXTENSION Food Insecurity and Hunger in Ohio Ohio 3rd worst state in nation for ‘food insecurity’ “…families forced to skip meals or eat less because they didn’t have the money to put food on their table” ~16% of Ohio families were below Federal Poverty Level 14% of Ohio residents received SNAP (~$124) in 2/16 Most of us always know where our next meal is coming from, but more than 2 million people in Ohio don't. National rate at 5.6 OH population is about 12 million The Columbus Dispatch, September 10th, 2015

SNAP and SNAP-Ed SNAP is the largest program in the domestic hunger safety net SNAP-Ed improves the likelihood that persons eligible for SNAP will eat more nutritious meals and increase physical activity. Safety net

16 What we accomplished so far…
79 counties offering SNAP-Ed programming (90% of Ohio counties-10%increase) 322,605 participants reached (52% increase) 23,435 programs delivered (48% increase) 94% of programs delivered as series Significant changes in behaviors for most outcomes for adults and youth Affecting almost a million people
