4 The Truth Is… Off shoring has occurred in manufacturing and service sectors There will be economic cycles that affect employment in every sector Increases in productivity have affected manufacturing more than economic cycles have Improvements in productivity will continue to change the manufacturing sector

The City of Downey has been the site of aviation ingenuity since 1929, when ranch land was converted into an airport and aircraft manufacturing facility For the next 70 years the site and facilities continued to be developed, expanded and utilized for aircraft manufacture, missile design and development, and ultimately for the design and production of Apollo command and service modules and production of the Space Shuttle Orbiters Downey California was the center of America’s lunar space program The Downey plant built 17 space modules 6 for unmanned test flights and 11 for manned flights The script of the movie Apollo 13 changed to “Houston, we have a problem!” Thus noting that America no longer associated Downey, California to the space program Source:
