Location Lying in the Southern Hemisphere , Australia is , in land area , the sixth largest nation , with an area of 7.7 million square km . The mainland is the largest island and the smallest , flattest continent on earth . There are rainforests and vast plains in the north , snowfields in the southeast , desert in the center and fertile farmlands in the east , south and southwest .

Australia located in the southern hemisphere(半球), so the climate is in contrast with that of China .The four seasons are: Spring,from September to November; Summer,from December to February; Fall, from March to May and Winter, from June to August. Spring and autumn are suitable seasons for tourism and winter is a appropriate season for skiing. Large temperature difference between day and night in Australia and rainfall is uneven(不均匀).
