5 Proclamation Act of 1763 Ended settlement west of Appalachian Mountains. Upset them. By 1765, many started crossing the line and settled in western lands.

6 Sugar Act Cut in half the tax rates on Molasses.
Created courts to punish smugglers Continued smuggling.

7 Stamp Act Direct tax on articles and documents Loud protests
Wrote newspaper articles against the tax. Boycotted British goods “No taxation with out representation”

8 Townshend Acts Created a tax (duty) on tea, paper, glass, and paint.
Smuggling continued. Boycotts.
