Air is Matter It takes up space and it has weight
2
AIR takes up space We closed off the air in this syringe by placing a tube with a clip on it at the tip of the syringe. When we pressed the plunger down, we couldn't completely remove all of the air from the syringe. What other way did we show that air takes up space?
3
Air has mass Air weighs something! This means that the force of gravity is acting on it. When air is let out of one of the balloons, the balloon with air will drop down.
4
Air can be compressed: We did this by connecting a syringe to a tube with a clip on it. You could keep pressing the plunger until all of the air went into a very small amount of space The picture to the right shows another way to compress air and create a fountain!
