3 Officially declare independence
A year after Lexington and Concord The second continental congress met and formed an army Called the Contential Army George Washington was the commander On July 4th 1776 the Declaration of Independence written by Thomas Jefferson

4 What did the declaration say?
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, -- That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Where have we heard this before?

5 Declaration Continued
unalienable rights (life, liberty, pursuit of happiness) are rights that should be protected by a democratic government an unalienable right cannot be taken away by the government Use of unalienable rights lead the way for the creation of the U.S. Bill of Rights Was allowed to happen because England was an ocean away..

6 World Reacts One of the reasons the Americans wrote the declaration of independence was to justify the revolution to the rest of the world. France heard our call and helped with money, troops and arms and it helped that they were still bitter about the 7 years war.

7 So how was this allowed to happen?
