2. Basic idea of DE
Students and teacher are separated by distance and sometime by time. Since teachers and students are separated by distance, as a result it becomes necessary to introduce an artificial communications medium that deliver information and provides a channel for interactions between them.

3. Definition of of DE
“Distance education is planned learning that normally occurs in a different place from teaching, requiring special course design and instruction techniques, communication through various technologies, and special organization and administrative arrangements (Moore & Kearsley, p.2.).”

Individual teachers: The design, teaching, and administration of the programs rests with the on-campus teachers and administrators
Virtual universities and consortia: (e.g NTU, Western Governors University, California Virtual University)
