4 TITLE: The title comes from the name of the people to whom it was written the people of the city of Corinth and the Christians in Achaia. Achaia was the Roman name for Greece and Corinth was the Roman capital of Greece.

13 Corinth Corinth was considered such an immoral city that the Ryrie Study Bible states that "the Greek term Korinthiazomai (literally to act Corinthian) came to mean ‘to practice fornication’."

14 Corinth Waymon Miller in "New Testament Churches" estimates that the city was a "prosperous city of 600,000 population when Paul was there." Corinth was a seaport city. According to Acts 18:4 there were both Jews and gentiles in Corinth.

15 DATE: Acts chapter 18 tells of how Paul first visited Corinth and established the church there. This book is believed to have been written about AD 56 or AD 59.

16 Special Information: 2Corinthians indicates that there had been rebellion against Paul by some of the leaders (2Cor 11). A fair amount of this book is Paul’s defense that he is a qualified Apostle.
