The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

Exposition The four Pevensie children, Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy, have been sent away to live in the countryside, with the Professor, during World War II. While exploring the Professor’s house the children enter a wardrobe and begin an adventure in the magical world of Narnia.

Problem Introduced The evil White Witch has cast a spell on Narnia making it always winter and never Christmas. In an effort to keep control, the White Witch tricks Edmund into bringing his siblings back to Narnia so that the Prophecy of the four thrones of Cair Paravel is not fulfilled.

Rising Action The children enter Narnia, meet the beavers, and discover that Edmund has left to find the White Witch. Aslan returns breaking the Witch’s spell and Edmund must forfeit his life to the Witch for betraying his siblings.

Climax Aslan willingly submits to the Witch, taking the consequence for Edmund’s treachery. Aslan is bound, shaved, and slain at the Stone Table.

Falling Action Aslan comes back to life cracking the Stone Table and causing death itself to work backwards. Aslan returns to the Witch’s castle and frees all the animals previously turned to stone. In the final battle of good and evil, Aslan and the Pevensie children defeat the Witch and her followers.

Resolution Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy are crowned as kings and queens of Narnia and reign for many years. The Pevensie children return to the Professor’s house through the wardrobe, where no time has passed.
