October 27 Breakfast of Champions Reward Winners of the Pumpkin Decorating Contest will have an opportunity to have breakfast with the Principal. October Ongoing Fall Into Books Book Display Students will have opportunities to check out “Fall” related books.

Caceres Elementary 10-4 to 10-10 Fire prevention week Activities: Let’s be Safe With Fire Students will learn about fire safety and participate in lessons that will teach them what to do in case of fire. They will explore Sparky the firedog’s website. 10-10 to 10-14 Author Visit Activity: Author Maria Calvin Lopez visits Caceres Elementary. Students will explore the Realistic Fiction Genre reading books such as Bonnie’s Secret. They will also enjoy a Titanic themed book display as they learn about this historic event. 10-17 to 10-31 Halloween Activities: October Contest, Display ‘scary’ books, Find the Mystery Book The library’s monthly contest will be Guess how many jack-o-lantern teeth (candycorn) are in the jar? Student will participate in finding a mystery book where some paperback books are hidden around the school and students should find them, read them, and AR test them and then go hide them again so others can find. Lessons on Halloween Safety.

October 19, 2017 Literacy Night Let’s Fall into Reading  Students and parents will be invited to participate in various literacy activities during our Literacy Night. October Spooktacular Books Book Display Shelves will be decorated with many “spooky” books. October 23 – Nov. 3, 2017 Pumpkin Book Characterntest  Students will have the opportunity to participate in a campus-wide pumpkin book character decorating contest.

LeNoir Elementary October 2 – 6 Shoot For The Stars Literacy Night Family Night Students will visit the library to work on a literacy activity using the online Buncee program to create a slide related to the literacy night theme using their creativity and text to explain and design a slide. October 9 – 13 Fire Prevention Week Safety Skills Students will attend a Fire Prevention Presentation and will create an online Buncee slide describing what they learned from the presentation. October 16 – 20 Chipotle Night Library Fundraiser The LeNoir Library will be having a fundraiser at Chipotle in Weslaco, Texas.

October 25, 2017 Safety Circus Play Drama The National Theater for Children will present a short play on electricity safety. October 20, 2017 (tentative) Big Read Book celebration On this day, everyone in the school will read the same book at the same time. Activities will be held throughout day. Children will dress up as part of the book’s theme.

Ochoa Elementary Sept. 25-Oct. 3 Scholastic Book Fair  Book fair to promote the love of reading in everyone. Book fair will be held from Monday-Friday from 7:30-4:00. All students, parents and staff are invited to come and support the fair while investing is some great reads. Oct. 1-Oct. 28 Celebrate the Season: Autumn and Fall Holiday Displays Book display of Autumn, Halloween, Day of the Dead, Election Day, Veteran’s Day, and Thanksgiving Book display and promotion will create awareness of the season and holidays/important days being celebrated during this time of the year. It also allows students to see the patterns followed as the months go by and seasons change. Oct Top Reader Celebrations Reward celebrations for students who are meeting their reading goals and showing love of reading and books. Celebrations will be held to reward all students who met their reading goals. Students will be able to participate in fun and creative activities that they can enjoy. Oct. 6-Oct. 27 National Hispanic Heritage Book display representing Hispanic Leaders. Celebrating Hispanic leaders that have excelled and have been successful in their lives and are good role models. Oct. 31 Be a Character Promotion of positive role models found in book characters. Students will dress up as their favorite book character and be part of the Character parade. Display a jar with an unknown amount of candy. Students will guess the amount the closest will win jar of candy and a paperback book by a Hispanic Author. Oct 15 to Oct 31 Pumpkin Harvest Decorating Contest  Activities: Students will decorate a pumpkin at home to display it in the ILC. To welcome FALL a flyer will go out to encourage families to work together on decorating a pumpkin like their child’s favorite book character. Oct 30 to Nov 3 Book Fair Activities: Display books and introduce different authors. Students and their family, teachers and staff can purchase books to promote reading at home.

Reader Celebration Accelerated Reader reading incentive Students will receive prizes for taking a.r. tests and having an 80% or above average on all tests during the 3rd six weeks. 10/13/17 Distinguished Reader Celebration A.R. Top Reader Recognition The librarian will recognize students with the most words read with a party to celebrate their accomplishments. 10/23-10/27/17 Pumpkin Decorating Contest Holiday literature connection Students and teachers will decorate a pumpkin as a children’s book character. The class who makes the most creative pumpkin character will win a prize. 10/31/17 Halloween Treat Promoting Literacy The librarian will be giving a free book to every student as their Halloween “Treat.”

Ongoing Guessing Jar / Candy Corn Day Activity: Estimation game for all students to participate. Just for fun: A jar with Candy Corn is displayed in the library monthly and carries on a holiday theme. Students are allowed to guess how many candies are in the jar. At the end of the month (October 30th, the student with the correct or closest amount wins the jar with the goodies. October 1- 31 Children’s Magazine Month Activity: Display various children’s magazines Magazines for different age ranges will be available for students to view and check out.
